"The Catch" Part II

Well, folks, it’s déjà vu all over again here in the desert! Willie Mays has just done it again—can you believe it? A year and a half after his iconic catch in the ’54 World Series, the Say Hey Kid has once more robbed Vic Wertz, and what a robbery it was!

With the Giants trailing by five runs in the fifth inning, Wertz stepped up to the plate, hoping to break the game wide open. He sent a towering drive deep into right-center field, a ball that looked destined to bring in a couple of runs. But hold everything—here comes Willie Mays!

He’s sprinting, not just running, from center to right-center, eyes locked on that ball as if it were the only thing in the universe. And here he is, all the way out at the 400-foot mark—ladies and gentlemen, that ball’s got to be a sure double, maybe even a triple...

But no! Willie leaps, gloved hand outstretched, and with perfect timing, he snatches the ball right out of the air just before it can smack into the wall. He cushions himself with his bare hand against the fence, his cap flies off—but he holds on to that ball! Two Indians left stranded, and once again, Vic Wertz must be wondering what more he can do. Willie Mays, ladies and gentlemen—there's simply no one like him.

Well, I pitched it and you caught it. How'd it play?

Like a doubleheader – baseball’s twice the fun when you've got good company.
